Michigan law authorizes the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to run automated speed cameras in highway work zones, but only where workers are present and only from April 2, 2026 onward (2024 PA 164, MCL 257.627c). A first offense of 10 mph or more over the limit brings a written warning; a second within three years is up to $150 and a third or later up to $300 — all civil infractions with no license points. As of mid-2026 no cameras were issuing warnings or citations, and MDOT has publicly targeted spring 2027.
