Common questions
Q:How does LawLert detect when I cross a state line?
Your iPhone's location services tell LawLert which US state you're in. The first time you open LawLert after entering a new state, the app detects the change and shows you the laws that apply where you are. The status indicators and law cards update instantly. LawLert v1.0 covers all 50 US states — international coverage is on the roadmap for a future release. (We're also working on background notifications that arrive without opening the app — coming in a future update.)
Q:Does LawLert work outside the United States?
Not in v1.0. LawLert currently covers the 50 US states only. If you open the app outside US borders, you'll see a manual state-picker and a clear notice that no live detection is happening. International coverage (Canada, Mexico, EU first) is on our roadmap — sign up at lawlertapp.com to be notified when it ships in your region.
Q:Will LawLert drain my battery?
No. LawLert uses significant-location-change events from iOS, which are designed to be battery-friendly. The app does not poll GPS continuously.
Q:I'm not getting push notifications. What do I check?
First, confirm Notifications are enabled for LawLert in iOS Settings → Notifications → LawLert. Then in the app, Settings → Push notifications must be toggled on. If both are correct and a real state crossing doesn't fire, contact us with your iOS version and the timestamps of when you crossed — we'll trace it. Background-triggered pushes (alerts that fire even when LawLert is closed) are not active in v1.0 — we send notifications when the app detects state changes during use. Always-Allow location permission is recommended so we can prepare for that capability in upcoming versions.
Q:How do I cancel my Pro subscription?
Open iOS Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → LawLert Pro → Cancel Subscription. Apple handles all billing. You'll keep Pro access until the end of your current paid period.
Q:How current is the law information?
Our content is sourced from public state statutes and updated periodically. Each detail page shows our last review date. Laws can change between updates; treat LawLert as a starting point, not a substitute for licensed legal advice.
Q:I think a law is wrong. How do I report it?
Email support@lawlertapp.com with the state, category, and what you believe is incorrect. Include a source if you have one (a state statute URL is ideal). We review every correction request.
Q:Is LawLert legal advice?
No. LawLert is an information product. The status indicators reflect our best read of public statute. If you're making a decision with real legal consequences, talk to a licensed attorney.
