Michigan Gas Tax (2026)

Conditional: 52.4 cents/gallon state motor-fuel tax on gasoline and diesel, effective Jan 1, 2026.

ConditionalVerified Jul 30, 2026

52.4 cents/gallon state motor-fuel tax on gasoline and diesel, effective Jan 1, 2026. Michigan simultaneously stopped charging the 6% sales tax on fuel (Public Act 20 of 2025), so the higher excise replaces it rather than adding to it — Treasury calls it "not a price increase." The rate is recalculated every January (51.0c base, adjusted for inflation, capped at 5%).
