Cannabis in Italy: restricted — there are real limits travelers must follow.
Cannabis is not legal in Italy, but holding a personal amount is an administrative matter rather than a crime — no arrest, no criminal record and no fine. The sanctions still bite travellers: the authorities can suspend your passport and driving licence for 1 to 3 months where cannabis is involved, and non-EU visitors can have their tourist residence permit suspended. Selling, supplying or growing cannabis remains a criminal offence.
Personal use: administrative sanctions including suspension of the passport, driving licence and — for non-EU visitors — the tourism residence permit, for 1 to 3 months where cannabis is involved. Small-scale supply: 6 months to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of €1,032 to €10,329.
