Flying a drone privately in South Africa is tightly boxed in: only over property you own or have permission for, only within 500 m of yourself and in sight, never within 10 km of any airport or helipad, never within 50 m of a person, a public road or someone else's property, and never over a prison, police station, court, crime scene or national key point. Any non-private use needs SACAA approval, aircraft registration and a remote pilot licence.
