RESTRICTED

South Africa's duty-free traveller allowance covers cigarettes, cigars, pipe and cigarette tobacco, wine and other alcohol — vaping products are not on that list. Vaping products are excisable goods and excise duty applies at the time of importation, so declare a vape or e-liquid at the red channel rather than assuming a tobacco-style allowance exists.

Failing to declare is an offence. SARS: it "results in the detention and forfeiture of the goods not declared and accompanying goods, imposition of an administrative penalty and/or criminal prosecutions depending on the seriousness of the offence."

§ South African Revenue Service (SARS) — Excise: Tobacco Products (incl. Vaping Products), last updated 19/08/2026; read with SC-PA-01-03 Duty Free Allowances for Travellers Rev 8
