RESTRICTED

Sweden's national smoking ban covers far more than cigarettes: for these rules "smoking" includes heated tobacco, e-cigarettes, herbal smoking products and anything used like a cigarette. You may not smoke in restaurants and other places serving food or drink (the law does not limit this to indoor rooms), in any indoor premises open to the public, in premises where a public gathering or event is being held, on domestic public transport and at its stations and stops, including the outdoor areas that go with them, at the entrances to public premises, at fenced outdoor sports grounds, at playgrounds open to the public, in schools and childcare premises and their playgrounds, and in health-care premises. Hotels must keep a set number of rooms smoke-free. Venues may allow smoking only in areas specially set aside for it, and restaurants only in a separate smoking room. Tobacco and e-cigarettes may not be sold to anyone under 18, and sellers must check age.

The Act on Tobacco and Similar Products sets no fine for the individual smoker: the owner or operator of the place is responsible for enforcing the ban and may remove a person who keeps smoking after being told to stop (chapter 6, sections 8-9). The criminal penalties in chapter 10 fall on sellers, for example up to six months in prison for selling tobacco or e-cigarettes to someone under 18 (chapter 10, sections 2 and 4), and up to two years for selling tobacco without a licence (chapter 10, section 1). Smuggling tobacco or e-cigarettes is punished under the separate Smuggling Act (chapter 10, section 6).
