Alcohol — Sweden

Sweden makes you 20 to bring ANY alcohol across the border - not 17 or 18 like most of the EU. From outside the EU you get 1 liter of spirits OR 2 liters of fortified/sparkling wine, plus 4 liters of wine and 16 liters of beer, and Tullverket publishes NO fractional split, so treat it as a strict either/or. You also must have been abroad at least 20 hours OR be arriving on a commercial flight; and once inside, only Systembolaget sells anything stronger than 3.5% beer - closed Sundays, closing 15:00 Saturdays, and it does NOT accept a US driver's license, so carry your passport.

Over the allowance you must take the red "Goods to declare" lane and pay customs plus excise duty - for spirits that is SEK 4/litre customs and SEK 267/litre excise (fortified wine SEK 2 + SEK 92, wine SEK 1 + SEK 41, beer SEK 3 + SEK 23). If Customs concludes the alcohol is not for personal use it is seized and you face either a tax investigation or a criminal smuggling investigation under the Smuggling Act (2000:1225).
