Restricted: Alaska prohibits open containers of alcohol in the passenger compartment while you are driving on a highway or vehicular way.
Alaska prohibits open containers of alcohol in the passenger compartment while you are driving on a highway or vehicular way. There are exceptions for a container in the trunk, on a motor-driven cycle or behind the last upright seat of a vehicle with no trunk (if it is re-enclosed in another container), behind a solid partition, or held by a passenger in a for-hire vehicle that seats 12 or more. A container counts as "open" once its seal is broken, and glove and utility compartments count as part of the passenger compartment. A violation is an infraction (AS 28.35.029).
