The rule today

Statewide Stage 2 fire restrictions have been in effect on Utah's state and unincorporated private lands (including Trust Lands, state parks and WMAs) since June 26, 2026; no rescission is posted as of July 29, 2026, and incorporated cities and towns are exempt. Utah's 2026 wildfire season is among its worst on record. Stage 2 prohibits all campfires/charcoal/pellet fires (even at developed sites), smoking outside an enclosed vehicle/building or cleared area, fireworks/tracer ammunition/exploding targets, cutting-welding-grinding in dry vegetation, and small engines/ATVs/chainsaws without a spark arrestor; a shielded gas/liquid stove with a shut-off valve is allowed in a 3-ft cleared area. Federal land differs by unit: DIXIE National Forest DROPPED to Stage 1 effective July 27, 2026 (Order 0407-26-12, through Oct 31 — campfires allowed only in Forest-Service-installed pits at developed sites), while FISHLAKE remains Stage 2 (Order 0408-26-04). BLM Utah posts orders per district — currently Stage 1 in Color Country and Paria River, a West Desert order barring steel-component ammunition/targets, and a statewide prevention order banning fireworks and exploding targets until rescinded. Violations are a Class B misdemeanor (up to $5,000 on federal land). Confirm your exact unit at utahfireinfo.gov.
