Los equipos de radio que transmiten requieren autorización en Jamaica. Los radios de dos vías (incluidos los walkie-talkies FRS/GMRS), los amplificadores y repetidores de señal celular y otros transmisores deben tener la homologación (type approval) de la Spectrum Management Authority: el equipo sin homologar no se puede importar ni usar, y lo retienen al ingresar al país hasta completar un trámite de liberación. Los inhibidores (bloqueadores) de señal son más graves: usar cualquier aparato para causar interferencia perjudicial a un servicio de radio es delito y el equipo puede ser decomisado. Los radios y televisores que solo reciben señal están exentos.

Original (EN): Radio transmitting gear needs Jamaican authorisation. Two-way radios (including FRS/GMRS walkie-talkies), cellular signal boosters and repeaters, and similar transmitters must be type-approved by the Spectrum Management Authority - non-type-approved equipment cannot be imported or used, and it gets detained at the port of entry pending a release process. Signal jammers are worse: using any apparatus to cause harmful interference to a radio service is a criminal offence and the equipment can be forfeited. Ordinary receive-only radios and TVs are exempt.

Radio and Telegraph Control Act s.7(1): establishing, maintaining or using radio apparatus without a licence is an offence carrying a fine not exceeding JMD 1,000 and, in default of payment, imprisonment up to twelve months. s.14 (harmful interference, covering jammers): fine not exceeding JMD 1,000 and, in default of payment, imprisonment up to six months. Under s.15 the court may additionally order forfeiture of the equipment. Under the Telecommunications Act s.9(7), importing prescribed equipment without a dealer licence carries a fine not exceeding JMD 3,000,000 or imprisonment up to four years, or both.
