Consumer fireworks are legal statewide (legalized 2012), but you must be 21 or older to buy, possess or use them — higher than most states. Use is allowed 9:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m., extended to 12:30 a.m. on July 4th, December 31st and the weekends immediately before and after each, and only on your own property or on property whose owner has consented (civil fine $50–$500). A municipality may prohibit or restrict sale or use, and many towns do — check the town (8 M.R.S. § 223-A).
