Czechia partly legalised cannabis on 1 January 2026, but not in the way the headlines suggest: only adults aged 21 and over are covered, and there is still no legal way to buy it. Adults 21 and over may keep cannabis for their own use -- up to 100 g in their own dwelling but only 25 g outside it -- and grow up to 3 plants in a property they own or otherwise have a legal right to. Bringing cannabis into the country, taking it out, or carrying it through Czechia is a separate criminal offence, as is selling or supplying it, and the gravest band of that offence reaches 18 years.

Exceeding the personal limits is first a misdemeanour with a fine up to CZK 50,000. It becomes a criminal offence under section 285 of the Criminal Code -- more than 5 cannabis plants, more than 200 g in the dwelling, or more than 50 g outside it -- carrying up to 6 months imprisonment, a ban on activity or forfeiture. Producing, importing, exporting, carrying through the country, offering, brokering, selling or otherwise procuring cannabis for another person is a separate offence under section 283a: up to 1 year at the base level, up to 2 years on a larger scale, up to 3 years for an organised group, for a repeat within three years or on a considerable scale, up to 5 years on a large scale or against a child, 2 to 8 years for significant gain or acting with an organised group operating in several states, then 5 to 10 years, 5 to 12 years and 8 to 18 years in the gravest bands. Preparation of the offence is itself punishable.

Do not bring a firearm into Czechia without paperwork arranged before you travel. A non-EU foreigner may temporarily import, hold or carry a category A, B or C weapon only on the authority of a zbrojní průvodní list (firearms transit pass), obtained in advance from a Czech embassy, the Police Presidium, or a border police unit. An EU resident may instead rely on a European Firearms Pass, and EU hunters and sport shooters holding a European Firearms Pass for a category B or C weapon may transit without an additional Czech document. Hunters and sport shooters can be issued the transit pass at a border crossing on entry if they present an officially certified invitation from the hunting-ground operator or the event organiser. Your duty-free limit in Czechia depends on how you fly: EUR 430 arriving on a commercial flight, but only EUR 300 if you come in on a private, recreational or sport flight. Travellers under 15 get EUR 200 - more than the EUR 150 several other EU states apply, so do not reuse a figure you read for another country. And you cannot part-count: if a single item pushes you over the limit, tax is charged on its whole value, not just the excess.

No fine is published. The stated consequence of exceeding the threshold is that customs duty, VAT and excise become payable, and because part of an item''s value cannot be counted, tax is assessed on the full value of the item that breaches the limit rather than on the excess alone.

Declare your e-liquid, because Czechia does publish a limit and it is small: 20 ml of e-cigarette refill liquid per person arriving from outside the EU - one or two standard 10 ml bottles. On top of that you get 100 g of nicotine pouches and 100 g of other nicotine products. Age 17 or over. Anything more is taxable, so put it on the declaration rather than hope.

E-liquid, nicotine pouches and nicotine products above these figures are not exempt and are liable to Czech excise duty, VAT and any customs duty. No exemption at all for a traveller under 17.

Arriving in Czechia from outside the EU you must be 17 or over, and you get ONE of: 200 cigarettes, 100 small cigars up to 3 g each, 50 cigars over 3 g, or 250 g of smoking tobacco - mixable up to 100% of one allowance. Heated tobacco is counted separately: 100 g of heated-tobacco refills and 100 g of other tobacco products. Czechia applies the FULL EU allowance, not the reduced one.

Tobacco above the limits is subject to customs duty, VAT and Czech excise duty. The exemption does not apply to any traveller under 17. Allowances cannot be pooled between people or netted off against each other.
