Possessing 2 ounces or less of ganja is a non-arrestable ticketed offence (J$500 fine), but over 2 ounces remains a criminal offence and public smoking is also ticketed.

Over 2 oz: arrest, court, fine and/or imprisonment plus a criminal record; under 2 oz or public smoking: J$500 ticket.

Taking ganja (marijuana) through the airport or out of Jamaica is illegal even though small amounts are decriminalized inside the country, and Jamaica Customs explicitly bans importing or exporting it.

Arrest and prosecution for drug export/trafficking, including jail.

Importing or possessing any firearm or ammunition without prior Jamaican authorization is strictly forbidden, and a U.S. concealed-carry permit does not apply.

Mandatory minimum 15 years in prison for possession of even a single cartridge (Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act 2022).

Bringing mace, pepper spray, or knives into Jamaica without authorization is not allowed.

You must declare US$10,000 or more (or equivalent) when entering Jamaica.

Failure to declare can lead to seizure and penalties.

Jamaicans drive on the left side of the road, and front-seat seat belts and motorcycle helmets are required.

Driving on the wrong side or unbelted risks accidents and traffic penalties.

Jamaican law prohibits 'acts of gross indecency' — any physical intimacy — between persons of the same sex, in public or private. Reports of discrimination and violence against LGB individuals are widespread.
