Slovenia abolished smoking rooms: since 1 January 2026 there is no indoor place to smoke in a bar, cafe, restaurant, airport or workplace. Smoking is banned in ALL enclosed public and work spaces — work space expressly includes company vehicles — and in ANY vehicle carrying someone under 18. A space counts as enclosed if it has a roof AND more than half its walls are closed, so a covered terrace is legally indoors. The smoker's own fine is 125 to 5,000 euros, and Slovenia may impose more than the minimum on the spot; smoking in a car with a minor is a separate flat 250 euros. One exception survives and it is the one travellers care about: hotels and other overnight lodgings may still designate rooms for smokers. You must be 18 to buy.

The individual smoker is fined 125 to 5,000 EUR (ZOUTPI 43. clen(1), third indent, as replaced by ZOUTPI-B 20. clen), and under the new 43.a clen a fine above the statutory minimum may be imposed in fast-track minor-offence proceedings. Smoking or vaping in a vehicle carrying anyone under 18 is a separate flat 250 EUR (43. clen(2), unamended). The owner, tenant or manager of the premises must enforce the ban (39. clen) and a legal person that fails to do so is fined 4,000 to 33,000 EUR (42. clen(1) pt. 30, as replaced by ZOUTPI-B 19. clen).
