Cash of US$10,000 or more (or the equivalent) must be declared when entering or leaving Venezuela. The bolívar is the official currency and US dollars are widely accepted, but black-market currency exchange is banned under Venezuela's foreign-exchange controls — using it can lead to detention and criminal penalties.
