Driving under the influence of alcohol is illegal (though common in practice). Expect frequent police and National Guard checkpoints — drive slowly and stop if asked; some officials solicit bribes. After a crash you must stay at the scene until traffic police arrive, and police can seize your vehicle if you cannot show insurance, your licence and your passport.
