From October 1 through April 30, 27 counties — Barrow, Bartow, Bibb, Carroll, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Columbia, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Houston, Newton, Paulding, Richmond, Rockdale, Troup, Walker and Walton — allow only EPD burn types 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12 and 13; all other Georgia counties allow burn types 1 through 13 (EPD Non-Summer Legal Burn Types page, re-read October 1, 2026). Burning household garbage is illegal statewide year-round. Georgia Forestry Commission burn activities 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 11 and 13 require a GFC permit (1-800-GA-TREES). The GFC can still issue county burn bans and the daily fire-danger rating can stop a burn: LawLert cannot read the GFC Public Viewer automatically, so restrictions are set county by county — check the GFC Public Viewer for your county before you burn.
