New York statewide rule

No statewide burn ban was in effect when LawLert last read DEC's fire-danger map on September 30, 2026; LawLert could not re-read it on October 1, 2026 (DEC's site blocks LawLert's automated reader), so today's rating is not shown here. New York's annual statewide residential brush-burning prohibition runs March 16 through May 14 each year; outside that window DEC open-burning rules still apply, and burning garbage or leaves is illegal statewide year-round. Campfires and small cooking fires under 3 feet high and 4 feet wide using clean, untreated wood or charcoal are allowed. DEC rates fire danger by Fire Danger Rating Area, and all 10 areas - Adirondack, Adirondack High Peaks, Catskill, Hudson Valley, Lake Ontario Plains, Leatherstocking, Long Island, Southern Tier, St. Lawrence and Upper Hudson Champlain - read Low on the FDRA risk table effective September 29, 2026 through September 30, 2026; that table has expired and is not a current rating. Ratings are reforecast daily and a Red Flag Warning can be issued at any fire-danger level, so check the current map and any local-government burn ban before burning.
