Wyoming statewide rule

Wyoming has no statewide burn ban - restrictions are issued per land-management unit and county, and 2 of them changed in the past week. BLACK HILLS NATIONAL FOREST: a NEW Stage 2 order, BKF-198-2026, took effect at 12:00 p.m. on September 24, 2026 and runs to 12:00 p.m. on December 15, 2026. It supersedes the July order BKF-194-2026 and covers the Bearlodge AND HELL CANYON Ranger Districts in Wyoming, so the Weston County side of the forest is named in it, not only the Crook County side. Prohibited: building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal barbecue or grill, except a liquid-fuel or gas device used on ground cleared of vegetation; smoking except in an enclosed vehicle or building; welding or operating an acetylene or other open-flame torch; using an explosive; and operating a motor vehicle off Forest Service roads, except parking in an area free of vegetation. Permit holders (FS-7700-48), officers performing official duties and firefighting personnel on duty are exempt. A violation is a Class B misdemeanor carrying a fine of up to $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, up to 6 months in jail, or both. The forest posts its current fire danger as Very High in the Northern Hills and EXTREME in the Central and Southern Hills. BLM HAS LIFTED 2 SETS OF ORDERS: the High Desert District terminated its Stage 1 restrictions on September 2, 2026 across Teton, Sublette, Lincoln, Uinta, Sweetwater, Carbon, Albany, Fremont and Laramie counties, and the Wind River/Bighorn Basin District rescinded fire prevention orders BLM-WY-010-2026-01, BLM-WY-020-2026-01 and BLM-WY-050-2026-01 on September 23, 2026 across Big Horn, Hot Springs, Park, Washakie, Fremont and Natrona counties, which is the Cody, Lander and Worland field offices. The BLM year-round Wyoming order still applies on all of that land. BLM STAGE 1 ORDERS REMAIN on the rest of the state BLM land: the Newcastle field office covering Crook, Weston and Niobrara counties, and the Buffalo field office covering Johnson and Campbell counties, plus the Casper field office order. Sheridan County BLM land sits under the year-round order rather than a Stage 1 order, the one county-level gap, so check locally there rather than assuming either way. Under Stage 1, fires are allowed only in an agency fire grate at a developed site or a fully enclosed stove or grill; the year-round BLM order also bars fireworks, exploding targets and engines without a working spark arrestor. Confirm your exact area with the local sheriff, fire district or federal land manager.
