Consumer ("permissible") fireworks are legal statewide, but retail sales are allowed only from noon June 16 through midnight July 5 and noon December 15 through midnight January 1 (La. R.S. 51:652). Parishes and municipalities may regulate or prohibit sale, use and possession outright (R.S. 51:660) — check the local parish or city. Statewide, fireworks may not be ignited within 1,000 feet of a church, hospital, school, public building or fireworks retailer, or thrown from a vehicle ($500 and/or up to 6 months). Cherry bombs, aerial bombs, oversized Roman candles and sky lanterns are banned outright (R.S. 51:651.1).
