Consumer-grade fireworks (including aerials) are legal to buy and use statewide. Local governments cannot regulate the sale, storage, transport or distribution of fireworks, but may regulate the hours of ignition and use — except they cannot restrict use after 11 a.m. on these protected days: December 31 (until 1 a.m. January 1), the Saturday and Sunday before Memorial Day, June 29–July 4, July 5 when it falls on a Friday or Saturday, and the Saturday and Sunday before Labor Day — each until 11:45 p.m. Outside those windows a local ordinance may apply, carrying a $1,000 civil fine per violation (MCL 28.457).
