No tire moved on a highway may have any block, stud, flange, cleat, spike or other protuberance of material other than rubber projecting beyond the tread (Miss. Code § 63-7-67). Mississippi has no studded-tire season and no exception for emergency or police vehicles — bills to create one have repeatedly failed. Only two exemptions: farm machinery with protuberances that will not injure the highway, and tire chains of reasonable proportions when required for safety because of snow, ice or other conditions tending to cause skidding. The same section also bans metal tires in contact with the roadway and requires solid rubber tires to carry at least one inch of rubber above the flange; MDOT and local authorities may issue special permits for tracked farm equipment. Violations of Chapter 7 are misdemeanors (§ 63-9-11).
