Muffler in good working order and constant operation required; a muffler producing excessive/unusual noise or annoying smoke is deemed not in good working order; cutouts prohibited. "Excessive or unusual noise" includes non-motorcycle motor noise noticeably louder than similar vehicles and over 95 dB; it is a defense to show the muffler does not exceed 95 dB under SAE measurement standards. Farm tractors/implements of husbandry exempt — Tenn. Code 55-9-202 as amended by Public Chapter 164 (eff. July 1, 2023).
