Hawaii Open Container Law (2026)

Restricted: Hawaii prohibits both having an open container and drinking alcohol on public roads, for the driver and for passengers, and opened containers must be carried in the trunk (HRS 291-3.1, 291-3.2).

Hawaii prohibits both having an open container and drinking alcohol on public roads, for the driver and for passengers, and opened containers must be carried in the trunk (HRS 291-3.1, 291-3.2). There is an exception for qualifying for-hire vehicles with a partition (291-3.4).
