Washington regulates outdoor burning by land ownership and region. DNR's Eastern Washington burn ban — enacted July 17, 2026 and still posted as in effect on July 29 — covers all forest lands under DNR fire protection in the Northeast and Southeast Regions: no outdoor burning and no campfires or charcoal briquettes; pressurized liquid-gas/propane stoves with a working shut-off valve are allowed. It stays in place until otherwise posted (weather-dependent). A DNR burn restriction applies to all state, county, city and private land under DNR fire protection, including state forests and DNR campgrounds. DNR has NOT issued a blanket ban for Western Washington, but many counties (e.g. Thurston, Mason) impose their own, and fireworks and residential debris burning are widely restricted in summer. Check DNR's Burn Portal (burnportal.dnr.wa.gov) for daily restrictions and confirm the county plus the DNR/USFS/BLM unit that manages your exact location before burning.
