Some things are illegal to bring into or take out of Thailand at all, not merely taxed. Thai Customs names as prohibited goods: narcotics, pornographic materials, counterfeit trademark goods and goods infringing intellectual property rights, fake notes or coins, and reserved animals or CITES-listed wildlife. A separate restricted list (guns, Buddha images and antiques, plants, live animals and carcasses, food, medicine, cosmetics and supplements, vehicle parts, cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol, radio and telecom equipment) may be brought in only with a permit from the responsible Thai agency, shown at customs.
