Burn Bans
Burn bans change week to week.Track burn bans in the free LawLert iPhone app and it alerts you when one is imposed or lifted where you live or where you are. No account.Get the appNebraska's baseline law (Neb. Rev. Stat. §81-520.01) is a statewide open-burning ban on bonfires, outdoor rubbish fires and land-clearing fires — waived only by a burn permit from your local fire chief (the State Fire Marshal's burn-permit page, re-read September 29, 2026). Gov. Pillen's 2026 emergency burn-permit suspension (Executive Order 26-08, which followed 26-06) was rescinded by Executive Order 26-10 effective April 2, 2026, and no burn-related executive order has been issued since — re-confirmed September 29, 2026 against the Governor's official executive-order register, which runs through EO 26-21 (September 24, 2026) — so local chiefs again issue open-burn permits. Counties and fire districts can impose local bans, permits are commonly suspended on red-flag/critical fire-weather days, and state parks may enforce temporary campfire bans. Check with your local fire department or the State Fire Marshal before burning.
