Iowa Concealed Carry Laws (2026)

Permitted: Iowa does not require a permit to carry a handgun: anyone 18 or older who is not prohibited from possessing firearms (Iowa Code 724.26 or federal law) may carry openly or concealed without one (Iowa Code 724.5, 724.4E; permitless carry enacted by 2021 Iowa Acts ch 35).

Iowa does not require a permit to carry a handgun: anyone 18 or older who is not prohibited from possessing firearms (Iowa Code 724.26 or federal law) may carry openly or concealed without one (Iowa Code 724.5, 724.4E; permitless carry enacted by 2021 Iowa Acts ch 35). Under 18, going armed with a dangerous weapon concealed is a serious misdemeanor (724.4E(1)). An optional permit to carry weapons is available at 18 and older (724.8(1)). A permit held by someone under 21 cannot be used to buy a handgun from a licensed dealer (724.15(1)).
