Conditional: In Iowa, anyone 18 or older who is not prohibited from possessing firearms may carry or transport a handgun in a private vehicle without a permit, loaded or unloaded, openly or concealed (Iowa Code 724.5).
In Iowa, anyone 18 or older who is not prohibited from possessing firearms may carry or transport a handgun in a private vehicle without a permit, loaded or unloaded, openly or concealed (Iowa Code 724.5). Under 18, knowingly carrying or transporting a pistol or revolver in a vehicle is a serious misdemeanor (724.4E(2)). Carrying a weapon within reach in a vehicle while intoxicated is a serious misdemeanor (724.4C(1)(b)). On school grounds, any firearm is a class D felony unless it is unloaded and inside a closed, fastened container too large to conceal on the person, or in a cargo or luggage compartment not readily accessible (724.4B(1), (2)(f)).
