Consumer fireworks are legal statewide (legalized 2017), but use is limited to June 1–July 8 and December 10–January 3, generally 9:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. (later around July 4 and New Year''s) (Iowa Code § 727.2). Use is also heavily local-option: many cities and counties restrict or ban discharge, and using them where a local ordinance prohibits it is a simple misdemeanor with a fine of at least $250. Since 2025 (SF 303) local governments may not ban use on July 3, July 4 and December 31.
