Info: Slow down and move over. A driver approaching a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights must slow to a "reasonable and prudent speed," coming to a complete stop if necessary, then change into the adjacent lane - or two lanes over if possible (HRS 291C-27).

Covers police, fire, ocean safety, EMS, freeway service patrol, sheriff, state and county emergency management, civil defense, DOT harbors and DLNR enforcement vehicles, and tow trucks. If a death or injury results, the driver is charged under Hawaii's negligent homicide or negligent injury statutes.
