Si llega a Portugal en avion desde fuera de la Union Europea, puede ingresar 200 cigarrillos libres de IVA e impuestos especiales; o bien 100 puritos (max. 3 g cada uno), 50 puros, 250 g de tabaco para fumar, 250 g de rape, 250 g de tabaco de mascar, 20 g de tabaco calentado o 30 ml de liquido para cigarrillo electronico; las categorias se combinan de forma proporcional. A diferencia de la mayoria de la UE, excederse no se resuelve declarando y pagando: la aduana portuguesa establece que el tabaco que supera los limites es incautado y destruido. Los menores de 17 anos no tienen ninguna franquicia de tabaco.

Unlike most of the EU, going over is not a declare-it-and-pay situation for tobacco: Portuguese customs states that tobacco exceeding the limits is SEIZED AND DESTROYED. Travellers under 17 get no tobacco allowance at all.

No monetary fine is stated, but the stated consequence is HARSHER than tax and is the reason this row matters.
