Drugs — Jamaica

Do not carry cocaine, heroin, opium or morphine into or out of Jamaica, and never carry a bag or package for anyone else. Possession, importing, exporting and dealing all carry a maximum of 35 years in prison, and Jamaican prison sentences are served in full. You must declare "illicit drugs or narcotics" on the arrival declaration.

Importing or exporting cocaine, heroin, morphine or opium: up to 35 years' imprisonment on conviction before a Circuit Court, with NO fine alternative offered in that limb (Dangerous Drugs Act s.8 with s.22(2)(a)); or on summary conviction, a fine up to JMD 500,000 and/or up to 5 years' imprisonment (s.22(2)(b)). Possession (s.8B) and dealing (s.8A) carry the same 35-year Circuit Court maximum, there with a fine as an alternative. Possession of more than 1/10 oz of heroin, cocaine or morphine, or 1 oz of opium, is deemed possession for dealing unless the accused proves otherwise (s.22(7)). Drugs and utensils may be forfeited (s.22(9)); a conveyance MUST be forfeited on the prosecution's application (s.24(2)). The FCDO adds that all prison sentences in Jamaica are served in full.
